Too much time on their hands...

Famewhore's homepage has a wonderful animation of two ATAT(?)s from Star Wars shagging.

New Essential (if infrequent) read

I've been hugely enjoying reading Chris L's Desirepath right from the beginning. There's some great essays on Virgin, City structures and even on what a Desire Path actually is.

Shame it doesn't get updated too often tho! C'mon Chris!

Canals

Just discovered something weird about my iPod's in-ear headphones. If I smile the music gets louder.

If I was more profound I'd be able to turn that into a great metaphor for life. As it is, you'll just have to tell me yours so I can think "Ah yes, that's what I'd have said".

Fact-finding mission

As a cynical, lefty, anti-globalisation kind of guy (I actually look in clothes to see where they were made before I buy them), I'm enjoying quietly keeping an eye on Slightly North Of Tomorow. Back in August, Shawn started working at the Starbucks callcentre. Two words guaranteed to send a chill through the heart of anyone who's read 'No Logo'.

Not exactly grey...

There's a stretch on the westbound North Circular, either just before or just after the Wembley Ikea, I can't remember which, where - on a grey autumn day - everything becomes a shade of orangey-red or muddy green. And you're suddenly aware that there's absolutely no blue anywhere.

And it becomes just shocking wherever it appears.

A tiny flash on a sign hinting that "M1" is this way, a truck-drivers t-shirt reflected in his side mirror, a non-conforming bagel shop...they just become almost painful to look at as your brain has got used to trying to put blue in where none existed.

That'll teach you

A friend recently remarked that, while I wasn't updating the blog and it had gone blank at month-end, he'd sunk to the desparation of looking at my Amazon wish-list.

"Bloody hell you've got appalling taste in music" they said. "It's all Marillion and shit like that".

It was at this point that I realised that I'd actually bought all the stuff I *wanted* off my wish-list, and was left only with the stuff I might get around to getting one day to investigate dark areas of my youth.

Anyway, it's been thoroughly updated now. Not that you even bought me any of the Marillion or Genesis records, you git.

Thanks to Tom Plasticbag for this little courtroom gem.

Reminder to Self

I must tell you all (?) about the truly fabulous Anne Dudley concert at the Royal Festival Hall at some stage though. You know all those dance tracks with orchestral samples in them? She arranged them for a full concert orchestra.

I cried during 'Moments In Love' and Lighting Seeds 'You Fooled Me'.

NTL update

I'm not sure, but I think I've accidentally been given a 1MB connection. Ooooo.

So, how best to proceed?

Okay, so *so* much has happened since the last serious updates on this blog I'm not even sure where to start. Or even if I should.

We've had packing, moves, unpacking, high-level awards shenanigans, weddings, computer and studio nightmares, fun with NTL, major restructuring of my emotional priorities. And a lost cat.

But in some ways it seems to have happened in an outside, other, time. I wasn't reading blogs as I didn't have a connection, so I can't even pretend that I'm doing it to link to other cool stuff. It would just be "what I did on my holidays".

Perhaps you should all just take it as read that I'm happy now, in an entirely different environment, and we'll all hope that this blog carries on being useful or amusing despite its long gap?

Life Un-Folding

Simon over at Mutual Misunderstanding has been leaning on me to get into Ben Folds.

Well, I have to admit I'm not convinced. Song For The Dumped is fab, but fundamentally I just don't like his voice.

Sorry matey.

I'm In

New house - lovely. NTL installation team - less so. We're both really happy.

More updates when I'm not doing this via a dialup connection.

Okay, so I'm biased

But I have to admit that the Interactive Map section of the wife's new site for The Office is pretty damn top online entertainment. Keeps the old mouse-finger very happy.
