Recent Learnings

1) It is possible to go for more than two weeks without looking at Flickr.
2) Using a laptop for 2 hours a day on the tube undoes all that good work with the ergonomic keyboard and alexander technique.
3) When learning sightreading music, you need to teach your brain first. Your fingers will look after themselves.
4) Cluetrain is great when dealing with people who have some understanding of the power of the net. When not...it can backfire horribly. It will win, it's just it's going to take a lot longer. And won't involve a website.
5) Families are better than work - make sure you get to see them.
6) As above for friends.
7) Active living happiness, albeit a huge slog and with the occasional bit of horrible, is far better than years of going mad waiting for someone else to decide you can now be happy.

Happy Christmas everyone.

I would be careful with the laptop. I've know people with repetitive stress damage and also with Karpel tunnel syndrome (OK, I've got the spelling terribly wrong, but it is something that I discuss verbally rather than in writting, so I don't know the spelling). Once you have it, you are stuck with it. It can be very life limiting, not only in terms of work, but in terms of normal activities. Try reading a book or doing something else on the tube. Perhaps a bit of organising (e.g. to-do list for the day, sorted by urgency and priority; list of people to contact).

I know it isn't really my business, it is just that I've seen so many people's lives affected by this.

trouble with families is the hideous Glass Ceiling. your kids can't aspire to be the parents of the house -- promotion's only possible if they leave

If they get really stroppy I can always string them along for a few years with the offer they might be made a VP...
